Online Games
As both broadband and the proliferation of Flash and Java based plugins has become more widespread, online games have become increasingly popular, increasingly diverse, and technologically much more demanding.
From simple puzzle or strategy games to fully immersive, 3D MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) environments, the internet has enabled easy distribution and sharing of many games. Additionally, online games often incorporate ways of sharing data between players, from simple online scoreboards to interactive experiences with other players, either in teams or in a competitive environment.
Macromedia Flash is a platform which makes it relatively easy for many users to generate their own games, and the widespread availability of the Flash plugin has meant that many internet users have developed their own simple games, with some concepts becoming particularly popular. Additionally, there are many online game communities dedicated to retro gaming, creating modern versions of classic computer games from the 80s and 90s.
